The Pup Stop on Wakefield came about because Cheryl McCleary, Realtor at BHHS Premier Properties
saw an opportunity to give back to the community. This happened during the early days of COVID-19,
and free dog treats were a pretty great way to bring some much-needed smiles.
What started there grew into a series of seasonal fundraisers for some of our wonderful animal rescue groups, with the help of neighborhood dog moms and generous support of Garden Oaks / Oak Forest community businesses.
Informal holiday photo shoots in Cheryl's front yard quickly evolved into large community events with multiple vendors, raffles, contests, professional photographers and a lot more ... and together we raised tens of thousand of dollars plus awareness. What a great time #givingback and meeting so many people in the community!
In 2023, the Pup Stop on Wakefield returned to its initial form, providing dog treats generously donated by our wonderful friends at The Doggie Express, whose newly opened retail "barkery" store is at 1402 W 34th Street, Houston, TX 77018. It's an amazing place with an outdoor turfed party area, and dogs are always welcome!
In the meantime, please pop by anytime to The Pup Stop! It's the little "free library" at the corner of Alba and Wakefield, where the treats are always on (and in) the house!
We are always excited to welcome new partners, friends and allies to lock arms with The Pup Stop and local charities. To get involved, contact Cheryl McCleary at 832.452.9385 and cheryl.mccleary@preproperties.com
To the many wonderful people, businesses and organizations who have so generously helped, supported, encouraged, contributed and locked arms with us while we figure out this "Pup Stop" thing ... THANK YOU for joining us on this journey!
Throughout the year, The Pup Stop is proud to partner with and support Houston's amazing dog rescue and animal advocacy groups. We are currently inviting and encouraging support for our dear friends at ThisIsHouston.
